BRIDGMAN, Mich. (WNDU) - The Buchanan baseball team is ranked as the top team in the entire state of Michigan by high school coaches in the Wolverine State. The Bucks proved to be No. 1 again on Wednesday night in the Division 3 regional semifinal topping Lawton 11-1 in five innings.

“I think as the tournament goes on, it progressively gets harder and harder for us so big deal for all of us,” Buchanan junior baseball player Murphy Wegner said.

Buchanan scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back.

“We were able to hit some balls hard,” Buchanan head coach Jim Brawley said. “I think when you get two doubles from your six hole and two doubles from your nine hole, that’s a good thing. I think that was the difference.”

Even in a run rule, the Bucks know there is still a lot of work to be done.

“We wanted to come out here and get better,” Buchanan senior baseball player Keeghan Pelley said. “Obviously, we have a lot of things to work on. Anybody who is still in the regional, they’re good. We were 3-0. They were 2-0. Anyone can win, it’s baseball.”

Only two teams can win the regional championship on Saturday... it will be either Buchanan or North Muskegon.

First pitch in the Division 3 regional title game is at 1 PM Saturday at Cornerstone University.

Lakeshore baseball also topped Otsego in the regional semifinal 5-3. The Lancers will play in the regional championship at Coldwater on Saturday.
