MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - The day that electric delivery vehicles will be made in Mishawaka is drawing near.

On June 24, a stockholder meeting will be held to approve a merger that will finance production.

Electric Last Mile Solutions will build commercial delivery vans in the plant where the civilian Hummer was once produced.

At a webinar today the company CEO said the lifting of Covid restrictions means they’re giving prospective clients plant tours every week.

James Taylor says pre-orders of the vehicle have now reached 45,000, and that much of the initial production is already spoken for by the company’s strategic distribution partner.

“He is sort of demanding has given us contract commitments he wants the first six thousand call it substantially all of our initial production because he’s again very, very confident in this market based on face to face contact with many of the large fleets he deals with every day,” says James Taylor, CEO of Electric Last Mile Solutions.

Electric Last Mile Solutions expects to begin production later this year, and plans to build about 20,000 vehicles in 2022.
