Heavy police presence after Benton Harbor shooting
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WNDU) - One man was shot in the forehead and four people are in custody in connection with the crime.
The investigation brought a heavy police presence to the neighborhood for much of the day-that included an armored vehicle, troopers on foot carrying assault weapons, and the SWAT team.
At about 9:45 a.m., police in the area heard gunshots and found a shooting victim outside in the 300 block of Brunson.
The victim’s wound was not life threatening,” and he pointed out which house it had occurred at,” (320 Brunson) said 1st Lt. Ryan Schoonveld with the Michigan State Police.
Four people who apparently came out of the house—two men and two women-were taken in for questioning and eventually arrested.
The possibility that more suspects might be inside the home brought the heavy police presence.
“When we have a shooting or a suspect with a gun and they’re potentially inside of a residence, that is a danger right? And so we’re gonna set up a perimeter. There’s other houses, there’s people all over the place, so we wanted to make sure that we had contained the situation.”
Police have yet to release the names of those involved, although they believe the alleged shooter is among the four in custody.
