Pedestrian injured in car accident

60-year-old in critical condition after accident

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - An investigation is underway after a man was hit by a car in South Bend Friday evening.

According to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office, officers were dispatched to the area of N. Bendix Dr. and Ardmore Trail, South Bend, in reference to a driver/pedestrian crash just before 7 p.m.

Initial investigation shows that a Ford FZX was traveling southbound on N. Bendix Drive with a green light at Ardmore Trail. Near the intersection, the Ford hit a pedestrian that was crossing from east to west.

The pedestrian, identified as 60-year-old Michael Martin of South Bend, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. At last update, he remained in critical condition.

The driver, a 78-year-old male from South Bend, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) was activated, per protocol, to assist with the investigation.
